About the Tour

“Take a stroll in Canandaigua’s business district located on South Main Street. View some of the city’s architectural treasures and learn about the businesses that prospered in this area.” - Walking Tour: Historic Business District Canandaigua, New York.

This audio tour was created in attempts to provide a simple, educational, and interesting way to explore the history of Canandaigua’s business district.

The idea of digitizing and recording the already existing Walking Tour: Historic Business District Canandaigua, New York brochure, provided by the Ontario County Historical Society, was proposed by Wood Library Director, Jenny Goodemote back in 2012. The project was later brought to life in the FLCC recording studio, with the recording talents of FLCC’s own Bob Potter and a group of eight members of the Canandaigua community who read brief descriptions of the 18 locations on the tour. Once the audio was recorded it was paired with photos and the digitized brochure content then uploaded to the web by tech savvy librarian Ron Kirsop, Assistant Director & Adult Services Librarian of Wood Library.

The audio portion of the tour has been loaded on five iPods, purchased through a technology grant provided by Senator Patrick Gallivan, and are now available for check-out with a valid library card at Wood Library.

Wood Library would like to thank everyone who was involved with making this project possible including the voice talents listed below.
